There for family gathering a few miles away. Good situation to explore the surrounding area and....get to the sea. If self catering shops all within walking distance. On the whole excellent roads with the exception of the quirky single track roads with grass growing up the middle ....satnav seemed to have a penchant for finding a route using some of these L roads....beware😂😱. Main roads generally have excellent surfaces. Plenty good eating places around area.

Michael Davitt: he lived in the workhouse in Swinford with his mum when he was four years old. He became an important human rights advocate for here and other colonial countries, which have had very little voice in governments. Go visit the famine graveyard in Swinford, behind the hospital. County Mayo could have easily grown enough food to support its own population, but the crops was exported, and the people here starved - heartbreaking,

Check out Mellett's Drinking Emporium, a real old world pub full of artefacts and memorabilia from past times. Also the 19th century handball alley and the Brabazon memorial in the graveyard. The Gateway Hotel was also very good and this part of the word specialises in brown bread.
Location was great for what we needed. Close to Swinford with shops and restaurants/takeaways close by. Plenty of parking in a safe location. Hosts were nearby for anything we needed. Warm, spacious, cosy house. Really comfortable beds. Modern appliances and everything we needed to cook. Scones on arrival were a lovely touch. We will definitely be back!
We stayed in the annex, which was very comfortable. Ambience and decor was nice in the whole hotel. Staff were helpful/friendly. Parking was easy. Breakfast was ideal: porridge followed by full Irish: gluten free provided once they were aware of the need.
The property was bright and airy and very clean. The staff were excellent especially Stephen - thanks for your brilliant service and interesting chat. We had lunch dinner and breakfast in the hotel - it was all lovely and cooked to our requests.
Very homely. Spotless clean. I am glad we chose thre instead of a hotel as we were going to a wedding the day after. Plenty of space to get ready and relax. I would highly recommend Fraunhill if you want a relaxing atmosphere
Beautiful traditional country cottage fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay in Swinford. Our kids loved the donkeys in the field and the Football goals also! Great host, beautifully clean. Was picture perfect!
Excellent food and service. Very friendly staff. Great location for a tour around Ireland West. Near Foxford,Ballina, Westport. We asked for a twin room and that's what we got.
Beautiful cottage everything you need very clean, tidy, close to Swinford. Owner so nice & could not be more helpfull. Had a lovely time, hope to return again.
