Welcoming Galway is a small city with fantastic nightlife and an infectious atmosphere. Outside of the Galway Arts Festival, there’s still plenty of live music in the Irish pubs to get the party started.
The Galway Races at Ballybrit Race Course west of Galway Airport attract a good crowd, as does Eyre Square, a green space with flags of previous ruling families who gave it its nickname - City of Tribes. To the south are cobbled streets housing brightly colored shops and restaurants.
Sights in Galway include its cathedral and city museum which has an interesting insight into the history of the city and Ireland. Lynch’s Castle is the last remaining 17th-century merchant house, and the Spanish Arch is a small section of city walls by the Corrib River, linking Galway Bay to huge Loch Corrib. Where river and ocean meet is Claddagh Park, a great spot for a picnic with a view.
Further around the coast is Salthill Promenade, home to Atlantaquaria, Ireland’s national aquarium, focussing on sealife off Irish shores. It’s a Christmas Day tradition to jump from Blackrock Diving Tower nearby into the icy Atlantic Ocean, though you may well spot some wag giving it a go.
Booking.com has an excellent range of Galway hotels, apartments and B&Bs to complete your stay.

Heard for many years that Galway is a beautiful romantic place and always wanted to go there. Now I've been, and I won't be going back. Average looking place, nothing to really do, everything is very expensive and overpriced, especially the food. Some of the buildings are kinda cool, but the famous landmark road with the painted houses is literally 3 houses painted a colour and you will need to photoshop a bit of contrast to your photo afterwards!

Galway, although a city, feels more like a town with its cobblestone streets and square. There was plenty to see and do in Galway but it also allowed for excursions that were shorter in length. Bus, train, and tour companies were all close together which was extremely convenient.

Galway is perfect for a 1-day-stroll, but what really makes staying in Galway perfect or a must is what’s around Galway: cliffs of Moher, Aaran islands & Connemara. Those attractions/landscapes are what’s making Galway worth it.
And for Galway itself it’s the authentic pubs, the compact city where you can reach the „beach“ within 20 mins.

Galway Isa beautiful small city on the coast with much to do. The Latin Quarter is like what Nashville used to be before the big corporations took it over. You can walk down the street and hear music coming out of every pub door. It’s also a good staging point for trips into the countryside. The Cliffs of Moher sit about 1.5 hours away through the Burren, where you can see a very interesting environment and (I think), the oldest megalithic structure in Ireland. Locals recommended the An Púcán pub and we enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
We selected The Western Hotel for it's location to City Center. Visited for the Christmas Market and we were not disappointed. The location was great! The hotel was lovely, staff were all very friendly and helpful. We were most appreciative for the car park and it was handled very well with lots of guests. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was spotless! I would absolutely stay at The Western Hotel when returning to Galway.
The rooms are small, but comfortable and clear. The shared kitchen facilities are also great, which made breakfast prep quite a bit easier. It's a nice, quiet location outside of the city center. We've stayed at other dorms in Ireland, but this is the best one we stayed in by far, as this one was quiet and great for sleeping after long days of travel, tours, and hiking.
Very comfortable room and bed. Nice decor in the bedrooms. Breakfast was excellent and the food in the restaurant and bar was very tasty. Staff were vey friendly and courteous throughout our stay. Ample parking at the hotel along with a very convenient city bus stop across the road from the hotel which was ideal for visiting the city centre and Salthill.
The hotel is less than 2Km from the NUI, and the city centre is very close. About 1-1.5 hours drive to the Cliffs of Moher, which is the number one tourist attraction in Ireland, a fabulous place. The rooms are big, the beds are comfortable, and the bathroom is nice and spacious. I'd visit again.
I always stay at the Salthill Hotel, its perfect for Accessibility to the Beach,Promenade and City centre, it is Comfy, friendly the staff and exceptional service at Reception and in the restaurant/ bar are second to none. The Rooms are always very Comfy and Spotless clean.
the location was perfect! Close to City Centre but off the beaten path overlooking the river. Derek and his dad were very welcoming. This is our first trip to Ireland and if we come back we will definitely stay here again! Thank you Derek for your hospitality!
Very recommended fantastic accommodation. The room was very large and very comfortable. Large and perfectly clean bathroom. Good location. In 20 minutes on foot we reach the city center. Free parking in front of the hotel.
Absolutely recommended.
Thumbs up.
This was the best hotel I stayed in in Ireland. Clean room. Comfy beds. Immaculate bathroom, desks and wardrobe.. Location to Galway was fantastic. Staff were great and the hotel restaraunt/bar was excellent. The only hotel that made my mother happy.
Check in and check out were extremely quick and efficient. The location is very close to the city centre but not in the middle of the busy area, a really good location.
The room was clean and overlooked a garden at the back.
Great localization. Relatively close to the city center and to Salthill. Calm surrounding. TESCO just around the corner. The hosts helpful and kind. Everything fresh, clean and tidy.
Strongly recommend.
surprisingly excellent hotel given the cost. Perfect location in between train station and city center. incredibly helpful staff, clean room, nice and updated facilities. would definitely stay here again.
