We were there to meet up with family so we didn't use many of the facilities that Longford has to offer. Limited range of good restaurants but lots of fast food places. Good central base to explore lots of Ireland.

This is a part of the country which I wouldn’t think of exploring but I’m so glad I did. I was on my way to a wedding in Roscommon and we stayed in Longford which was within a half hour drive. It was lovely to be by the banks of the Shannon and I will certainly visit again. We ate in “The Purple Onion” and as we waited for our taxi to collect us the proprietor treated us to a nightcap on the house.MaeveIreland - 8.0Scored 8.0

Our stay involved walking the Longford Branch of the Royal Canal. This is an 8 km stretch of the canal. It is mostly filled in, but has an abundance of native trees growing where once the water flowed and is a haven for birds, butterflies and insects. The bridges still stand in all their glory which makes this stretch historically interesting. The Longford Branch ends at the junction where it meets the Royal Canal, about 2 km from Kilashee village. It is a tract of land well used by cyclists, but maintaining its own quiet rural feel to it.

Longford has so much to offer with the shannon and all its amenities very close by. The beautiful cathedral rebuilt after a devastating fire, a must see, demonstrating the wealth of local talant in the skills applied during the rebuild. But most of all the friendliness and warmth of the locals

Longford underestimates itself! It has lots to see in a very compact town with theatre, cinema, golf and historic sites within easy reach. Great literary connections, from Goldsmith to Maria Edgeworth, poets Padraig Collum to modern day Vona Grourke.lomanIreland

Geraldine and the staff went above and beyond and we are so grateful. They had snacks and drinks for us when we arrived and even made contact with our florist to arrange our flower delivery. The appartments are immaculate and tastefully decorated. The location is very central and there is secure parking. I would highly recommend the Cathedral View Apartments to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Longford.

It's a beautiful farm environment with a quaint feeling for the buildings you can admire. The decor within the place was extremely beautiful. Lovely plants and a really clean and beautiful feeling within the room. There's absolutely no reason to not choose this place to stay while in Longford! The property is tastefully furnished with a 2-seater couch, an armchair, and a TV. The kitchen ahd everyhing we needed such as a fridge (bonus points for ice in the freezer!), an electric hob, an oven and all manner of pots, pans and kitchen utensils.

Our host had thought of all the little things we might need including shampoo and shower gel, milk in the fridge and a well stocked coffee machine. It was a wonderful place to stay for our perfect break in North Longford!
