I cannot compliment the staff enough during my stay. The housekeeping staff are phenomenal and the charming gentleman at breakfast was so welcoming.
The breakfast was delicious, I ordered the veggie with coffee... Faultless.
The bed was extremely comfy and the short time I was there (I was at a wedding) I had no enjoyable sleep.

The room was lovely and comfortable. Their restaurant "Tapas" was incredible. I have eaten in some of the best restaurants all over the world. The food at Tapas is some of the best I've ever had and the desserts were 5 star!

Kinnitty castle was incredibly impressive when you approached. The grounds were beautiful with older buildings, a river, horses and deer just relaxing. The castle interior looked amazing and the staff were helpful and friendly.
We ate breakfast and dinner both days and the food was delicious and plentiful.

Birr is a lovely town - we visited family and friends and spent some time exploring the town. We visited Birr Castle and gardens, which are spectacular. We were however disappointed that we could not visit the castle itself as it is a private residence. The town is very tidy and people are friendly.

We visited the castle grounds which were excellent and much better than we expected.
Town centre has everything and reasonable cafes. Lots of pubs but then it was Ireland! Restaurants a little harder to find.
Walks and good quiet cycling on your doorstep or a short drive.

Birr is a beautiful town. It's steeped in history.
Birr is a beautiful town. It's steeped in history. The period houses all around are stunning. Castle tour is highly recommended. Lot's to see and do there. Nolan's pub was very welcoming and a great pint to be had. Kelly's bar is great for food and old fashioned Irish atmosphere and pint of Guinness.

Birr Castle was an enjoyable venue for a day visit.
Birr Castle was an enjoyable venue for a day visit. We had dinner in a local bar/restaurant where the food was good and the staff were friendly. Birr is quite a small town and it can be visited over a two day period. It is also relatively close to the Slieve Blooms which is a good base for walking.

Birr is a nice small town with a lovely small park and river walk and a fabulous castle and grounds. Kinnity castle is a short drive away and the Slieve Bloom walking trails are worth a visit if you like hiking .
The beds were really comfortable, and the room was perfect for our short stay
The hotel itself was clean, fresh, and tastefully decorated, and there was a really nice atmosphere there
The pool was amazing and so relaxing, a really welcome bonus
The young lady at reception was super, polite, and very helpful, as was the barman.
My only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer
I'm looking forward to staying there again
Excellent breakfast, the porridge and cooked breakfast on offer was exceptionally good, and the atmosphere of the dining room was calm and relaxed. The ambience and Georgian architecture was a delightful contrast to the usual impersonal modern hotel, and we enjoyed browsing in the emporium. The electrics in the bedroom were quaint and the TV was too small for the suite of the room, but these are minor issues.
Our stay at Townsend House was wonderful! The room was beautiful- we stayed in the family suite which was spacious and very comfortable. The location was just perfect for exploring the small village of Birr- walking distance to the castle and town center. The staff were welcoming and the breakfast was delicious (and huge!). We were so happy with this stay and would definitely recommend it.
Carmen is a wonderful hostess. She is kind and eager to share recommendations to travelers to experience her corner of the world, and she definitely elevated our stay in Birr. We learned about Hurling, the wonderful restaurant at which we at dinner, and an historic site on our way to our next stop. She is amazing.
It's a lovely hotel, with a friendly staff, in a very nice location. Gym & swimming pool, steam from, sauna & jacuzzi. Food was good & breakfast was good & varied. Family room had double & single bed, & a very decent size couch/ pull out bed. Really lovely lobby to sit in & take drink or tea & scones.
Warm shower, comfy/homely place to stay, clean rooms. Nice tapas restaurant- attentive servers.Quality ingredients for breakfast. Location great - could easily walk into the Main Street and to eateries and to Birr castle in 10mins.
Brona was a wonderful host, and we had a very restful stay. The location is a short drive to Birr Castle and downtown, and Brona gave great lunch/dinner recommendations. Facilities were very clean, and the bed was so comfortable.
The room was spectacular!
Big and comfy, exactly as in the pictures and description.
We got a warm welcome, and had a tasty breakfast.
For those who tour around Birr - it is an excellent choice!
We will sure get back again.
Amazing stay at what I can only call a gem in Birr Town. Everything is just a walk away and the house is beautiful with everything needed. Host was also amazing 😊Will definitely return 😊
The room was very comfortable with an en suite bathroom and plenty of room. The accommodation was in a great location for the wedding that we attended and for easy access into Birr.
Location in town and the staff are second to none. The town is underrated as a destination as there are many golf courses nearby and a visit to the castle is a must when in town,
Location excellent, right in centre of the lovely town of Birr.
Hosts were excellent and nothing was a difficulty.
Property is very well kept and has high standards all round.
Carmel was a lovely host, she made us so welcome and had every detail covered, she even gave us a lift to Birr Town which we really appreciated. Thanks Carmel
