So underrated, I would wholly recommend Ardara to anyone looking for friendly, kind locals in Donegal. It’s a quiet town in the middle of the west coast, perfect as a base for exploring Co. Donegal. Nancy’s Pub is great in the evenings; Sliabgh Liag Distillery is a must-visit and Eddie Doherty is a local celebrity with his weaving skills! Reasonably priced Donegal tweed products - much more affordable than the other shop in town. The Courthouse (in the Heritage Center) also does delicious breakfasts and baked goods. The only thing I’d be wary of is walking along the road - the drivers speed regardless of the time of day.

Easy to get around.
Easy to get around. Parking in free car parks or on the street.
Good base for touring Donegal.
Main hotel Nesbitt Arms are taking in Ukrainian refugees so will be closed to tourist accommodation.
The Corner House & other pubs are lively on a weekend night, so it can be noisy on the streets after hours.
Mostly good pub food available - very few restaurants.
For a start, Geraldine and her staff were wonderful and truly thoughtful. The rooms were spacious, impeccably clean and very comfortable. The beds were large and very comfortable too. The main bathroom was large and even cleaner than the rest of the rooms! The kitchen had every convenience, from a large table and many chairs to all sorts of snacks, cereals, tea and milk. Lastly it was quite and peaceful with large windows that looked out on the picturesque Main Street of Ardara. What a great place to stay.
Our host, John was a delightful man who made sure we were comfortable with our room, then recommended a great place to eat in town. After dinner we sat down in the living area where there is a bar and enjoyed his company along with other guests. We left with a full bellies the next morning after a delicious breakfast that was gracefully served by a lovely woman ( unfortunately I did not get her name, but she was also a delight. If we visit this area of Donegal again, we will definately stay again.
beautifully kept. the host was exceptional even going so far as to leave a few groceries to get us through breakfast in case we didn’t have time to shop before we got there. I found it to be really thoughtful and indicative of the overall experience. We really wished we could have cancelled the next hotel and stayed longer. we will definitely stay again when we go back that way.
Auntie B’s was very comfortable. Big room and comfortable beds. Barbara is so accommodating and makes sure you are totally taken care of. Very sweet hostess with an amazing staff. We will be back. We loved Ardara the people are so friendly and the talented musicians are amazing. Also visited the Silkie distillery. Very good tour.
We had a lovely stay at Hillhead House. The location is perfect for walking into town for dinner/ drinks and the hostess was wonderful. Beds were very comfortable and breakfast was lovely the next day with very nice chats. We felt very welcome and comfortable. Nothing was a bother. We will definitely be back and highly recommend.
Spacious, comfortable and decently equipped. Garden with a lovely little seating area with a view. Good location - an isolated rural spot a few minutes drive from Ardara and within easy reach of a beautiful waterfall and fine beaches. Friendly tone of messages from Maria (the owner).
Bayview Country House was easy to find and has ample parking. Our hostess and her family and staff were kind, friendly, and very helpful with advice about area restaurants and pubs. Our room and bath were spacious, comfortable, and very clean. Very good breakfast.
Paula met me on-site for key handover and she stayed to explain everything about this large apartment. She also supplied all of the kitchen, laundry and bathroom necessities. There were also maps and hints from Paula on hand. Apartment is very central in Ardara.
Most wonderful, hidden place in Ardara, County Donegal, Very quite. Beaches nearby. Pubs down the road. Large garden rooms,. Excellent full Irish breakfast. Oyters or steaks for dinner..John and his family are perfect hosts. Will be back next year for sure.
Host ,room, location and breakfast.all excellent.
Irene is a legend 🙂 couldn't do enough for us, we were made to feel very welcome despite turning up on motorbikes after heavy rain. Ardara is great too.
Would recommend wholeheartedly
This little house was fantastic. There was everything you want in this house. It was beautifully decorated and felt so homey. The owners went over and above in providing kitchen facilities and even special baked goods on our arrival.
it was a lovely stay for us! You have everything you need in the House and the hosts are really nice. they had a lot of ideas for our daytrip around Ardara.
We enjoyed the two days and really recommend this one!
Better than a hotel for a fraction of the price. The rooms were finished to a high standard and the kitchen/sitting room area are amazing. 100% will be back again
Lovely property in a quiet area.. Quick drive to Ardara. Very clean and well equipped property. The owner left a welcome pack which was much appreciated.
