We were there to meet up with family so we didn't use many of the facilities that Longford has to offer. Limited range of good restaurants but lots of fast food places. Good central base to explore lots of Ireland.

This is a part of the country which I wouldn’t think of exploring but I’m so glad I did. I was on my way to a wedding in Roscommon and we stayed in Longford which was within a half hour drive. It was lovely to be by the banks of the Shannon and I will certainly visit again. We ate in “The Purple Onion” and as we waited for our taxi to collect us the proprietor treated us to a nightcap on the house.MaeveIreland - 8.0Scored 8.0

Our stay involved walking the Longford Branch of the Royal Canal. This is an 8 km stretch of the canal. It is mostly filled in, but has an abundance of native trees growing where once the water flowed and is a haven for birds, butterflies and insects. The bridges still stand in all their glory which makes this stretch historically interesting. The Longford Branch ends at the junction where it meets the Royal Canal, about 2 km from Kilashee village. It is a tract of land well used by cyclists, but maintaining its own quiet rural feel to it.

Longford has so much to offer with the shannon and all its amenities very close by. The beautiful cathedral rebuilt after a devastating fire, a must see, demonstrating the wealth of local talant in the skills applied during the rebuild. But most of all the friendliness and warmth of the locals

Longford underestimates itself! It has lots to see in a very compact town with theatre, cinema, golf and historic sites within easy reach. Great literary connections, from Goldsmith to Maria Edgeworth, poets Padraig Collum to modern day Vona Grourke.lomanIreland

The very friendly host called in when we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed. She left chocolate bars, tea, coffee Milk & sugar which was a lovely touch. The apartments are very central. We were running the marathon and was kindly allowed a late check out so we could get showered and changed after the race. I would highly recommend the apartments and will definitely be staying next time in Longford.HelenIreland

The whole premise was extremely clean and very modern (upscale) especially for the price. The host was very accommodating and friendly. The grounds of the estate were really wonderful well kept. The pastoral surroundings were lovely and it was very close to the town of Longford. We also enjoyed a delicious breakfast made to our specifications.
