Layout of the town is terrible.
Layout of the town is terrible. Very difficult to find things and drive in for someone who is not familiar with it. Restaurants are adequate; a good variety. Mostly need to be there because of services (solicitor, accountant, etc.). My understanding is that the hospital is not very good.

We as a family spent a long weekend in Castlebar.
We as a family spent a long weekend in Castlebar. A car is not required to get around town. There are many lovely cafes for lunch and we had dinner at Pizza Bros which was very reasonably priced and food was delicious. There are many other lovely restaurants to choose from. The Irish Bar looked great for lunch but due to it's popularity we didn't get to try it. Another great pub - John McHales. Went there on Sunday night and they had live music playing - great atmosphere. We found an Escape Room Experience called INSiDE which is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of town - highly recommend it... we really enjoyed it. We also went bowling and then hired a car and went to Westport for a day. We ate at The Towers Bar & Restaurant. Food was amazing.. We drove along the coast to Bertra Beach with amazing scenery along the way. Could have done with a few more days - great weekend

Castlebar is a substantial town, with some good amenities and shopping. It's a good base for exploring Mayo and is reasonably close to Knock, Westport and Killala. Happy to recommend Bistrot 1798 restaurant - we had a lovely meal there. Great ambience and food, and very efficient, pleasant service. Good for a date night.

Castlebar is a vibrant town plenty of shops on the doorstep of the Ellison hotel beside the lovely Peace Garden Memorial and the National Museum of Ireland is just out in Tourlagh. Some of the crossing are hard to manage with a wheelchair.
Fab hotel lovely and clean nicely decorated rooms bathrooms and views. Staff all amazing especially restaurants staff and wee macs bar staff. The head barman very kind and accommodating for customers looking for tables to eat. !! Great food in all areas. Beautiful grounds and walks . Enjoyed the planned walks and our visit to cemetery to look up deceased members of our family a great stay all round.. next visit to mayo will definitely book again. We all agreed we didn't want to leave.
The staff were delightful and helpful from the start. The room was clean and with all the amenities we needed, in addition to free Netflix being available to watch at night. The hotel was also walking distance from a number of great venues to eat dinner and listen to live music. Breakfast was delicious and the staff gave us helpful directions on where we should go for our next day.
Majella is such a kind and welcoming lady. She went over and beyond to make our stay cozy, comfortable and met all our expectations. House is exceptionally clean with everything you need. Plenty room for 2+2. Easy access to Castlebar, Westport and other places.
We will be definitely coming back in few months. .
Thank you for your hospitality Majella. We loved our stay x
The house is beautiful & a credit to its owner Mary who greeted us warmly & nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was outstanding. The house is very conveniently situated for Castlebar, Westport & many other places within County Mayo. No hesitation recommending to others & will definitely stay again.
Very quiet location and lovely landscaped gardens. Exceptionally friendly and helpful host. Meadbh insisted on running my wife and into nearby Castlebar (twice) so that could both enjoy a drink. The studio apartment wants for nothing and a full Irish breakfast was provided too.
I loved my room, Deborah was friendly, welcoming and kind. The Hotel is very well located, and the room was super comfortable. It was a stormy night, and the WiFi was a bit weak, but allowed me to work and do everything i needed.
I will go back to Kennys next time in Castelbar.
Fantastic night away with himself , hotel is fab, staff are all so friendly and make sure all needs are met , food in the bar is unreal . Beds are so comfortable and rooms are just class . Breakfast the next morning was delicious . Couldn’t fault a thing.
Location was good - close to Castlebar and Westport.
Beautiful house and garden. Felt safe and secure.
Bathroom had jacuzzi bath - main reason for booking - nice treat!
Breakfast very good and carefully prepared and served, given Covid restrictions.
Visited with my Father on numerous occasions since January and we both found the hotel to be really comfortable with fantastic food and service and really friendly staff. Perfect location to the town, a great option for a visit to lovely Castlebar.
The family feel of the hotel was so so lovely. Staff couldn’t be friendlier and more helpful. The hotel was very well presented and centrally located. The hotel dogs were so sweet and you wouldn’t even know they were there. Staff couldn’t do enough
I loved the convenient location near many attractions in Castlebar. The staff were friendly and were more than willing to let me leave my bags for bit before and after my stay (which was much appreciated for my solo travel on foot).
Wonderful hosts, very clean, quiet place, close to Castlebar. This is the third time we have rented a cottage. Very pleased with the attention and service! We wish Your prosperity! We recommend.
Very clean & comfortable. Great location for exploring Castlebar, loved this town. The bar downstairs was really nice, enjoyed the live music. Hope to come back someday.
