Birr is a lovely town - we visited family and friends and spent some time exploring the town. We visited Birr Castle and gardens, which are spectacular. We were however disappointed that we could not visit the castle itself as it is a private residence. The town is very tidy and people are friendly.

We visited the castle grounds which were excellent and much better than we expected. Town centre has everything and reasonable cafes. Lots of pubs but then it was Ireland! Restaurants a little harder to find. Walks and good quiet cycling on your doorstep or a short drive.

Visit the castle. You could around the grounds for hours. Lovely science museum in the castle. Lots of shops. Park and walk around it’s busy for driving. Pay your parking ticket wardens around all the time. Didn’t have time to investigate it further. We had all our food a Dooley’s it was fabulous.

Birr is a beautiful town. It's steeped in history.

Birr is a beautiful town. It's steeped in history. The period houses all around are stunning. Castle tour is highly recommended. Lot's to see and do there. Nolan's pub was very welcoming and a great pint to be had. Kelly's bar is great for food and old fashioned Irish atmosphere and pint of Guinness.

Birr Castle was an enjoyable venue for a day visit.

Birr Castle was an enjoyable venue for a day visit. We had dinner in a local bar/restaurant where the food was good and the staff were friendly. Birr is quite a small town and it can be visited over a two day period. It is also relatively close to the Slieve Blooms which is a good base for walking.

We had a lovely little break. We were there for a wedding nearby and the facilities were excellent. The showers were lovely and the breakfast was fantastic!!! including the homemade scones! I am glad I chose to stay here instead of a hotel. It had the most peaceful surroundings! Thank you for making our stay in Birr such a nice memorable one. The room was large and had everything you could want for a short break. Tea/ coffee facilities and a hairdryer. The rabbits leading up to the driveway was so so cute!

We were given free parking right outside our room, the local people are so welcoming and friendly we would highly recommend staying in Emmet house you won't be disappointed we had a lovely breakfast every morning and our host baked a lovely cake for her guests to help themselves to during their stay.

A Georgian guesthouse on a quiet avenue leading up to the entrance of Birr Castle. Good facilities with period charm and helpful staff. Great breakfasts and lunches. Location very central to Birr but quiet and away from the busy main street. Birr Castle is on your doorstep with lots of walks through the grounds and ornamental gardens.
