Amazing hotel with fab pool facilities. Great location in the centre of Athlone with free parking. Shopping centre connected to hotel handy for a little retail therapy. Bedrooms are spacious, bright and modern with gorgeous big king sized bed and super comfy mattress for a great night's sleep! Incredible spread of food at breakfast - so much choice! We loved the Church of St.
We loved the Church of St. Peter and Paul - they feature vivid and colourful stained glass windows made by Harry Clarke. We were in there for way longer than we anticipated, the art was so detailed and interesting. We found handy parking round the back of the castle, but it was February and was quiet so no problems there.

We ate at The Fatted Cow, which served excellant food in a professional and friendly atmosphere.The town itself was easy to get around with good transport links to other towns and cities. One of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in! The rooms seemed to be very well sound-proofed. A really good breakfast selection - continental and hot - in a relaxed environment even though the hotel was very busy. Spacious lobby area to meet up. Shopping centre is right next door. The hotel is much more impressive on the inside than it appears from the outside. (Admittedly not helped by lots of roadworks going on while we were there.)

The location was similar to where I had stayed in the last time that I had been in Athlone, and is very central to the town. While my standards for walkability are wildly different than most people's (I wouldn't decline a walking trip to Roscommon, for example), I felt like the town as a whole had a very accessible vibe and the location of this hotel was very conducive to that ideal.

The checking in process is simple. The rooms are very spacious, clean, comfortable, and quiet. The large TV in each room also has loads of TV channels to view. The staff are very polite and courteous, and it definitely beats other 5 star hotels that I have stayed in. I will always stay here, whenever I am in Athlone.

Our room was beautiful and comfy, and breakfast was quite delicious. I found myself wishing we had more time here because of the excellent hosts! Neil gave many recommendations and fun history lessons of the extended area. The house was a short walk (maybe 1 km?) into the touristy part of Athlone. Would stay again!
